The vision and dream of the renowned Bengali poet Sukanta Bhattacharya (1926-1947) was the inspiration behind the establishment of Sukanta College. The Founder-President Sri Lokman Molla ...read more and local enthusiastic people dreamed the same—to impart knowledge and higher education among the downtrodden in the Sundarbans. With that vision the foundation stone of Sukanta College was laid in 2008 and with the passage of time it reached new heights. In 2019, it got the Permanent Affiliation from the University of Calcutta. At present, we have nearly twelve-hundred students studying different disciplines in different years. Nine subjects are taught at Honours and General courses in the undergraduate level.

Kudos to the local enthusiastic people, and, especially to Sri Lokman Molla, the Founder-President of the college, who took the initiative to establish an institution for local students coming from very needy families. In 2008, the college was finally established. Initially the number of students was less but with the progress of time it increased as is increased the number of courses and teaching faculties. We have limitations, there are certain infrastructural inadequacies, but with the help of the dedicated teachers and the helpful non-teaching staff, we maintain a healthy academic environment which helps the students to reach their goals. Since its establishment in 2008, now as the college has crossed ten-years’ of time, it has always tried to bring smiles to the local people with an attempt to unearth the hidden potential among them. The task is not easy but it is not unachievable either. Perhaps the best result of our honest effort can be found in the fact that in recent years students from remote corners of the Sundarbans as well as from districts other than South 24 Parganas are applying for admission to our college. As we strongly believe in dedication, determination, and diligence, we have faith in the core of our heart that one day Sukanta College will become one of the best institutions for higher studies not only in the district of South 24 Parganas, but in the entire state of West Bengal.
